To SFAMI Members and
Friends,
It is with deep regret,
sadness and heaviness of heart that I inform you that Bruce McGuire a long time
member of SFAMI and the FBS passed away on Friday from a long illness. Bruce was a long time supporter of the
biomedical community and will be truly missed. He was the 2009 SFAMI and FBS
BMET of the Year (See Attached Picture) I know Bruce very well and I can tell
you how hard he worked to improve the state of our profession. I have
included some excerpts from his BMET of the Year nomination form for those who
may not have had the pleasure of meeting Bruce. And while this Award was just
a small measure of the man I know how proud and honored he was to have received
it.
The SFAMI Executive Board, representing our members, hereby wish to enter in to nomination for FBS BMET of The Year 2009 SFAMI’s BMET of the Year 2009 Bruce McGuire for your consideration.
Bruce McGuire has been a Medical Equipment Service Professional for more than 17 years. He is employed by MedEquip Biomedical Incorporated, where he has worked for 8 years. During his employment there he has worked to improve the conditions of the biomedical profession by organizing recruitment drives for SFAMI and has served as SFAMI’s representative to FBS. Bruce has continued his service with the Florida Biomedical Society serving as President Elect, President and Past President and continues to be an advocate for our profession.
Bruce received his initial training from the United States Marine Corp in Communications and Electronics in 1986. He also received training from the USMC’s School of Culinary Arts. During his service with the Marine Corp he received honors at a Meritorious Mass at the USMC Station Jacksonville, North Carolina and was promoted to Lance Corporal. He served the USMC with distinction and received an Honorable Discharge at the end of his enlistment.
In April 1991, he received an Associate of Occupational Studies Degree at Southwest School of Electronics in Austin, Texas. He continually seeks opportunities for training or education wherever and whenever they are presented. Mr. McGuire also served as an instructor for Biomedical and Computer Technologies at Keiser College in Fort Lauderdale from 1993 to 1994. Bruce continues to advance his education and recently received a Master of Science in Biomedical Electronics Degree from Camden University on February 15th, 2008.
Mr. McGuire is active in the community he lives in supporting groups such as Civitan and SOBAP which reflect his civic dedication. He is also a member of the Society for Human Resource Management and has always been helpful to local biomeds in need. In closing we believe that Mr. Bruce McGuire will make a fine choice for FBS BMET of the Year 2009. We are proud of his accomplishments, his dedication to his profession, and his support of his fellow biomedical professionals. I and others in our
profession hope to continue his vision of a great profession and that will never
forget those that have served to achieve the high standards that highlights our
profession. We are all saddened by his loss and
our deepest sympathies and prayers go to all of
his family and friends.
